Looking to purchase a 2000 Porsche Boxster. Makes a fairly significant "whirring" noise coming from the front left tire. Noise does increase in frequency as car increases in speed...and doesn't go away. Minor vibration in steering wheel at faster speeds. Has been checked by reputible mechanics who have not identified any problem with the car. Said "you hear more when driving a convertible soft top". Noise seems too significant to be normal. Any advice?

It sounds like a bad wheel hub bearing. The technician should move grasp the wheel and check for excessive lateral and vertical play to see if the hub is coming loose. The vibration can be related to this or just a bad tire.
