Our pool coping, make of lime stone fell into the pool and ripped the liner. If there is no everhand on the stone what could cause such a cascade failure on one side of the pool

No, they are 4 foot section of limestone through the length, not the corners, if you google pool brick pool coping... there is only one location to place it... and ours had no overhang.
