I have a Sta-Rite SR333NA natural gas heater that is about 5 years old. I just had the membrane pad replaced about 6 weeks ago. The membrane pad is slightly different from the original. For some reason, even though my model is an SR333NA, the old pad corresponded with HD pads. The old pad had the AUX 1 and AUX 2 buttons and Filter Pump buttons. The new pad does not have these, althought the new pad corresponds to my model number.Anyway, the pool and spa temperatures now read about 100 degrees, even when the pool and spa are 80 degrees. This means i can only heat the pool a few degrees before it automatically shuts off. I had my pool repair man come oout again yesterday. He tried a new Thermistor and said that did not fix the problem. He feels the Control Board is bad and needs to be replaced. His price is $530.I am concerned that the problem may be due to the installation of a different membrane pad than the original, since the temperature issue started after the new pad was put in. Do you have any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi my name is Garry
I do a fair amount of work on Sta-Rite heaters. I can tell you that the membrane pad you had originally is no longer available, so the replacement you had put on is the only one that now replaces it.
The problem you are describing is not something related to the pad. The membrane pad is simply a way of switching the functions on the Control Board.
Since you are getting a temperature display reading substantially different than the actual water temperature, my inclination would be to replace the thermister. since this was already done, and the problem is still the same, it is possible that the board could be the problem.
The part number for a replacement Control Board is XXXXX-XXXXX and shows a list price of $558.15.
Seems like your service man is in the ballpark.
Does this satisfactorily answer this for you?
I am not rally mechanically inclined. If I found a good deal on one of the control boards, do you think I could install it myself?
You have to remove the top, unplug all the board connections, and remove the screws holding the board in. I don't know if you can because I don't know the level of your abilities.
The board usually comes with an instruction sheet, so you can look at it and decide.
