how old is too old for a hot tub to be repaired? Our Hot Spring Spa was purchased in 2000. When Jets or light is turned on it trips the electrical breaker. Just wondering if it pays to have it repaired.
It just depends on what service is needed if you should consider trading up. Many Hot Springs spas came with a plug that has a GFCI cord buildt into it that may need to be replaced which would only be a couple of hundred dollars at most. IF the hot tub is in good shape you may be able to just replace the control pack, heater, topside and light (they usually come sold in one unit all together). What model Hot Springs do you have? Does it have one of the GFCI cords attached? One thing you do not want to do is "chase" a problem.
It can easily be checked to see if a pump motor, heater, ozonator or cord is faulty and needs to be replaced. We have many tubs that old that are still working after a new motor, cord or ozonator. Be sure that whoever you call to do the work has experience and good references. OR if you are familiar with the control pack you can unplug each item and see if the breaker still trips. If it doesn't when one of the pieces of equipment is unplugged that is the piece that needs to be replaced. Be sure that the breaker the spa is on is good as well. GFCI breakers can go bad. Let me know if I can answer anything else for you.
