Customer Question

I am looking at purchasing a used Hawkeye Venus Spa originally purchased Dec 2008. The jets are plastic and the seller doesn't know what an ozonator is. He also said it uses chlorine. It was drained only in November over a very snowy winter and empty today. He promises it worked fine before he drained it last fall. Is there reasons I should reconsider or things I should check? I know little about hot tubs.

Is there a money back guarantee if it doesn't work? Without water in the spa, you will only have his work that everything works and doesn't leak, which may be claimed to be moving damage as he claims it works fine. You are taking a risk, especially since it seem his knowledge is limited, from the ozone to the chems..bromine is typically(but not always) used in spas, as proper chemical composition plays a big part in the longevity of the equipment.

This is a private sale. He asked for half the money now, half after it gets hooked up and works. Will I know immediately if it leaks? How? Will I see it? If they had been using an improper chemical composition it may not be apparent, correct? Are you saying it simply will lesson the overall life? Significantly? I know it's riskier than a new tub but at about half the cost.

Depending on the severity of the leak, it may show immediately for example if some of the plumping has cracked, or it may take some time to show, if it has bad seals. Chemical negligence can lessen the life of the equipment, depending on the severity and which part of the chemistry, and for how long all impact the results. Things you can do, check for power at the controller, bump the pumps to make sure they run quietly( running them dry is not good, but for a couple seconds wont hurt) You can also check the light and blower if equipped.

I already "accepted" the answer and therefore paid before receiving your reply to my follow-up. I will not accept again and have to pay twice for the same question. Thank you.

I'm Sorry I did not intend nor do I believe it will allow double payment for the same question. Have I answered your question to your satisfaction? Which ever way you end up going with the purchase, I wish you the best results.
