We've got a Hayward Star-Clear C1200 pool filter. We replaced the locking knob becuase it had become stripped - but now it is "locked" on the center rod and will not turn. We cannot get the filter lid off - and it is not sealed so we are unable to run the pool pump. What can we do to get the lid from it's "seized" status?
Optional Information: Make : Hayward Model : Star-Brite C1200RE Already Tried: replaced locking knob lubed inside threads lubed O-ring
I have the C1200, and I had to grab the top knob with a pair of channelocks and it ended up unscrewing from the bottum inside the filter housing. after that I grabbed the rod and unscrewed it from the knob and used a little plumbing grease on the top of the rods threads to avoid that from happening again
Which way did you turn the knob on top? Clockwise or counter clockwise?
Counter clockwise to unscrew. If the O ring is older and expanded, you will have to go to a pool supply and pic up a replacement. They are fairly easy to find as this filter is a popular one
One more question. The knob on top will not screw down on to the rod far enough for the dome to seal. All the washers seem to be in place
Its possible the rod is upside down. On my 1200 the threads that go down into the filter body is shorter than what goes into the nut. If that isn't the case then you could add washers. Did you replace the rod? Did it screw all the way into the filter housing.
