Customer Question

Car won't crank but has good battery. I jump the starter and it turns over but won't start even with key on. Tried switching the starter relay and it started then went and bought one and it didn't start so I'm lost. Maybe neutral switch?
JA: Is the car in "Park" or "Neutral?" Do you know if your car has a "wheel lock" feature?
Customer: Wheel is unlocked and yes I tried both park and neutral
JA: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Customer: 2005 pontiac grand am. 3400 v6
JA: Are you fixing your Grand Am yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes I am, and I replaced the starter relay and checked for fuel and spark while jumping the starter and still no start
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: It started once and hasn't started since. Maybe neutral safety switch?

Have you checked for codes in the computer?

Can I start by getting your VIN?

You will need to verify power coming out of the ignition switch with the key in the CRANK position and ensure all fuses are good as well as the PNP or nuetral saftey switch. If all checks out ok, it could be an issue with the PCM so be sure to check that the computer is awake with the key on and that it is grounding or activating the starter relay. Here is a wiring diagram of the starting circuit.
