I am trying to replace the turn switch on my 2007 pontiac

i am trying to replace the turn switch on my 2007 pontiac solstice- have removed the cover and release the clips holding the old switch but when you remove it there is no room. it hits the dash. do i need to do something with the steering wheel to pull it out or do you have to remove the dash?
JA: Do you have the car's service manual? Does the car have airbags?
Customer: just have the manual that came with the car and yes the car has airbage
JA: Are you fixing your Solstice yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: removed column skirt , released clips on old turn switch- there is no room to remove old switch without removing dash that i can see
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
