Tried to jump with polarity accidentally reversed. Corrected

Customer Question

Tried to jump with polarity accidentally reversed. Corrected it and continued. Car started but pressing gas pedal gives no increase in speed over 5mph.
JA: Has the vehicle turned into a gas hog? And how does it start -- same as usual?
Customer: It seems to start normally but the the engine won't rev and the car won't exceed 5mph.
JA: What is the model/year of your Pontiac?
Customer: 2010 Vibe
JA: Are you fixing your Vibe yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: No, I'm not really a car person. Haven't tried anything yet. I can check fuses. This happened late last night in the driveway. For some reason the hazards were on and by the time we noticed, the battery was dead.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: No, I don't have any more info. Thanks.

There is an ETCS fuse that always blows whenever these vibes are jumped backwards. Give me a sec and I'll look up the location.

Check the under hood fuse box for a fuse labeled ETCS- it should be a 10 amp.
