JA: How many miles are on the car? Is it an automatic or a manual transmission?
Customer: 188893 miles automatic
JA: What is the model/year of your Pontiac?
Customer: 2008 Pontiac torrent
JA: Are you fixing your Torrent yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: No thinking about going to a auto shop and trying the thermostat change
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: No that's it except I keep taking the battery cable off to reset the problem and it rides for a while and then the indicator comes back on and my fans kick in really loud

Hi There,
This is Clay, I'm a certified master automobile technician with 30 years of automotive repair and diagnostic experience.

The thermostat is a most likely cause, although the the cylinder head gaskets are also likely common problems with this engine. Have the shop check for ay exhaust gasses in the cooling system.
