My 2008 GXP is rarely driven. Battery went dead and had to

Customer Question

My 2008 GXP is rarely driven. Battery went dead and had to be recharged. When taken out the speedometer does not work, thus also not the odometer. Mechanic checked for animal damage but wiring is okay and no chew marks found. Check engine light finally came on and mechanic checked and replaced speed output sensor. Message then indicated problem with speed input sensor, but there is none (vehicle is a 5-speed stick). Any suggestions?
JA: How old is the battery? Have you checked the battery gauge on the dash?
Customer: Still there?
JA: What is the model of your '08 Pontiac?
Customer: Solstice GXP.
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: It starts and operates normally except Speedometer and odometer. Information center has blanks in average speed, mpg, etc but I assume due to not being driven. Changed oil due to length of time since last changed.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: Am I being too impatient?
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Pontiac Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.
