Customer Question

Just started today, last two times I went to use my vehicle
JA: How many miles are on the car? How old is the battery?
Customer: just a moment re miles
JA: Tell me a bit more about what's going on so he can help you best.
Customer: 153,435 km on the odometer. battery age unknown
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself?
Customer: uh, only if it's a simple reset like with a fuse!
JA: Is there anything else the Pontiac Mechanic should be aware of about your Pontiac?
Customer: can't think of anything. It is 16 years old. My keyless entry has quit working (button worn out), but my wife's still works.
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Pontiac Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

Hello and welcome. My name is ***** ***** you for visiting the site.

What is the year make model and engine of it please and what is the question?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
2000 Pontiac Montana. Uncertain of the engine. Three times today (never before), I unlocked the van with my key (my remote's button is worn out, but my wife's still works), and it begins honking when I open the door. I can't get it to quit honking unless I start the engine.

I see, thanks. The first thing that you will want to do is to check for any BCM trouble codes.

Complete the following steps in order to enter the diagnostics mode:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
  4. Turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the LOCK position then back to the ACC position within 1 second .

The BCM will enter the on-board diagnostic mode and flash the fasten seat belts indicator and sound the chime equal to the number of DTCs stored in the BCM memory. If no DTCs are stored, the BCM will not flash the fasten seat belts indicator or activate the chime.
