Pontiac Vibe: , have a new to me 2005 Pontiac Vibe base

Customer Question

Hello, have a new to me 2005 Pontiac Vibe base model FWD, AT with 65K. It has a hiccup shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, doesn't slam, almost feels like rpm is too high for the shift. More noticeable when warmed up. Changed ATF and filter with no improvement. Recovered fluid was dull red, replaced with Toyota T-IV. Any suggestions?

No

Have you had the computer checked for trouble codes? Not all codes will turn the check engine light on.

I have not had it checked for codes, i did order a code scan tool, I'll have to check it for codes.

Just about any auto parts store can check codes for you if you do not yet have a scan tool.

With some codes, the computer will go into a fail safe mode, commanding the transmission pressure control solenoid to max pressure which causes harsh shifts. This protects the transmission, but does not necessarily indicate a transmission problem. If a code P2716 is present, this is a common problem which a recall has been issue for. The PCM (engine and transmission control computer) would need to be replaced.
