I just installed a new cylinder head on my 2004 grand am

Customer Question

I just installed a new cylinder head on my 2004 grand am with a 2.2 ecotec. I need to align the timing marks for the three sprockets . I know there is a way of doing it by setting the harmonic balancer mark at #1 cylinder TDC.I do not have the lower timing cover removed

the harmonic balancer has no marks on it the only mark is on the lower gear

to align the chain the chain should have 3 colored links on the chain

do you see the colored links on the chain ?

There is a tab on the timing cover and a notch on the balancer. I used this procedure two years ago but I could not find that info this time

does the chain have 3 colored links on it ?

the key to the timing is the 3 staggers colored links will only fit all 3 timing marks only one way

there is no way you can put it on wrong as long as all 3 are aligned to the marks on the cams and crank gear

since the bottom was not removed i am assuming the chain never came off the bottom gear at all if that is the case align the timing tab and align the cam marks to the 2 colored links should put it in time
