I put head gaskets on my 01 grand am gt this evening. Heads

Customer Question

Hi, I put head gaskets on my 01 grand am gt this evening. Heads are on with felpro severe head gaskets. I torqued the books to 45 lbs. Now I'm thinking back and remixing that I went 180 degree. Instead of 95 passed on all the bolts. Not sure why I did it and feel kind of stupid for doing it.
Should I be worried?
Or should I loosen and reset them

you need to remove the heads and replace the head gaskets then torque them down to 95 degrees

going 180 is too tight and has over flattened the gaskets out you have to change the gaskets as if you leave it alone or loosen them to reset them there is a very high risk of a head gasket failure/coolant leak

Should the bolts be OK
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

they may have been over stretched and is not worth taking the chance

you can pick up a new set of head bolts at any Napa or Pep boys
