My car started making a winding, grinding, spinning, metalish sound and then died in my driveway. We took the starter off and had it tested and it failed...so we put another starter on. That didn't work. The starter smelled hot and so we took it off and took it back, they tested it and it failed... and so we got another new starter. They tested it so I know it was good. We put that one on and it didn't work either. It sounded at firstlike it wanted to start but won't. The battery is new. Can anyone help me figure this out?

You will want to take the spark plugs out and see if it will crank. Most times the rear bank, some cylinders will fill up with coolant because of the upper intake manifold and will act like a siezed engine. There has been a couple service bulletins for that type of concern.

What happens if I pull the spark plugs out and then it still wont crank?
What if I pull them and it still won't crank?
Of course, the engine could BE siezed but I doubt it with the 3.8 engine. You want to see if any coolant comes out of the cylinders, (any cylinder) when it is cranked with the plugs out. ..I have seen folks rty to turn the engine with a pull bar and a pipe, (from the crankshaft) and it still wouldn't turn with all the coolant in a couple of cylinders. ...Either way I wouldn't condemn the engine without taking the spark plugs out first and see if it turns, (it most likely will) then it is just the upper intake manifold, (plenum) available after market for much less than the dealership. I think Autozone had them for about $129, with all the gaskets.
