These are vacuum controlled has there been any work on the car you may have a vacuum line off under the hood

Customer replied375 days and 2 hours ago.

There has been no work done on the car.

The car only has 13,000 miles on it.

I know that the controls are vacuum operated.

Is the vacuum control switch bad or is the problem some where else?

it is most likely not the switch but the line that runs from the engine either off or broken we have even seen holes chewed in them from critters

Customer replied375 days and 1 hours ago.

If the line from the engine was off or broken there would be a big vacuum leak and the engine would not idle properly. The engine idle is fine.

the line is very small you would not have a large leak and would not hear the leak or idle rough

For me your awnser lacks depth. Saying there is a vacuum leak is too basic.

I told you I knew the control was vacuun, thats very basic. If you are an expert where do I look and how do I trouble shoot this problem?

Sorry i will have to pass this to another expert as i will be out a couple days

Customer replied347 days and 4 hours ago.

As it turns out I had to buy a service manual so I could trouble shoot the system. This got me a schematic of the vaccum system along with component locations.

I started at the vaccum conection at the back of the intake manifold and worked forward

Had to tear the dash apart. Had to buy special tool to remove the radio.

The end result was the vaccum switch in the dash was seperating allowing complete loss of vaccum.

If you are a Pontiac mechanic you should have had access to the service manual data and been able to send me the schematic and component locations. Saying there is a vaccum leak is a lame awnser for a supposed expert.
