Does the cruse light come on when you push the set button? Does the power light on the cruise on button come on?
No...lights do not come on. With key on, at the cruise control module harness, I have continuos power at terminal F, good ground at terminal E, power at terminal B when pressing the Set/Coast switch and power at terminal C when when pressing the Resume/Accelerate switch. Also, I have power at terminal A when I turn the cruise control on and no power when I turn it off.
Are there any check engine lights on?
No, there are no codes set. The red battery indicator light comes on very briefly when starting the engine which changes to a yellow indicator with a picture of an oil can and a wrench and this light always goes out after approx 30 seconds. The yellow check engine light comes on briefly when the key is turned on (so the bulb is ok) and goes out after this self test.
If there are any brake light bulbs out it can cause this so that needs to be checked, that includes the center high mounted lighs.
All brake lights are working ok. Checked the cruise control brake switch has continuity with the brake pedal at its resting condition and no continuity when brake pedal is depressed. Also there is power to this switch.
Do you know if you are getting a signal from the speed sensor? It should be flickering when the tires are spinning, that should be on pin K
I jacked up the left front wheel and put it in drive. The speedometer registers speed but there is no flickering of my test light on terminal K
Ok that is most likely the problem if there is no speed signal the cruise will not work
That signal comes from terminal 55 on the C2 connector at the PCM, so I would go to the PCM and see if it is flickering on that terminal if it is there is a break in that wire.
Just checked pin K again with a VDM. Between 2.3 and 3.4 volts coming through. I guess this wasn't sufficient voltage to light my test light.
Ok then check using a voltmeter to pin H Dark Green wire and monitor for change in voltage when the vehicle gets above 25 MPH. This is the inhibit circuit from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), voltage gets toggled by the PCM to allow the cruise to work or not.
At idle in gear speedo registers about 8 kmh and .03 to .04 vdc. At 45 kmh it registers between .01 and .02 vdc
It should switch from voltage to no voltage or just the opposite, if it is not doing that then the PCM is stopping the cruise from working so getting the PCM scanned would be the next step top see if there are any cruise control codes, they probably will not make the check engine light come on.

Ok...I am checking this out for a single mom friend of mine and don't know if she wants to incur that extra expense. She may just have to live without cruise control. Thank you for your time and advice. I am going to click on "Reply to Expert and "Acept Answer", please advise if payment did not go through and I will reply again by only clicking the "Accept" button. Thx, Graham
Payment did come through thanks and good luck with the repair.
