Hello , my name isXXXXX and thank you for choosing justanswer.com.

Are both heater hoses that go into the firewall hot? If so you need to replace the temperature blend door motor.

I uploaded the procedure in .pdf format here to justanswer. You can download it by clicking HERE. I hope this helps you.

1 hose is hot, the other not quite as hot.

Also the engine temp never comes up more than quarter gage.
Expert:  JHoop replied 3 years ago.
Did you read my answer?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
yes i did. So as long as both the hoses are warm , then thats what it could be?
Expert:  JHoop replied 3 years ago.
You put in a new heater core, correct?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
yes I did.
Expert:  JHoop replied 3 years ago.
If you partially block off one of the big radiator hoses to where very little water can flow for about 5 minutes does the engine temp climb and the heater get warm?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
I never tried that. The heater does blow some heat, but not much. At minus 15C it is cold inside.
Expert:  JHoop replied 3 years ago.
Can you try that? Se if we can get that temp up?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
I can try tonight. What are you thinking?
Expert:  JHoop replied 3 years ago.
I have not ran into this before on that engine. I am just doing an experienced process of elimination.

I live in So Cal so I see 30's. If you bring the temp up by closing the flow from the radiator then we know the problem is not in the cab.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
I blocked the radiator off with cardboard to see if the temp would come up and it does not. Today it is +4C and the temp gage will not come past 1/4.
Expert:  JHoop replied 3 years ago.
You need to have an engine temperature of at least 180 degrees for the heater to start to work at your ambient temperature.

I'm going to put your question back up and see if anybody else has any info on this. Sorry I couldn't help you further. I'm sure someone will be with you shortly. Happy Holidays........ Thanks again for choosing justanswer! JHoop.

OK
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I tried some things on the weekend. If I sit there and run the engine at 2500 rpm for a couple minutes, the guage will come up to half, and the heat is incredible. If you drive it, it goes down a bit but, heat is good. Once you cool it down, the next time is the same. low heat. I did notice the heat being way hotter from the floor or dash vents than the defrost mode. Seems like the drivers side of the defrost blows colder than the passenger side.
