2001 pontiac grand prix: mass air flow..run fine..accelerate..the psi

Resolved Question:

2001 pontiac grand prix 3.8 liter, code po102 mass air flow low freq, i am trying to help out a friend how has changed the sensor three times under warranty ,car will run fine for a while then it will not accelerate starts missing or cutting out have noticed when watching scanner that when this occurs the psi stays at 1.34 and there is no hz regristration , im thinking either the plastic plennum or the computer is the trouble, also when the problem occurs it will start then stall for a few trys then it will start and sometimes run fine and other times it will stumble till stallingit seems like when it gets to full operating temp is when it starts to fail, new mass air, new fuel pump and filter, cleaned egr and low idle control

GM Tech (Cam) :

Hi, I'm Cam. May I ask your first name? I am working to get you a fast accurate answer. About your vehicle,

GM Tech (Cam) :

\The reading stays at 1.34 while it is running?

GM Tech (Cam) :

I would verify the wiring long before anything else.

GM Tech (Cam) :

THe computer is in the air filter housing and it may have chewed wires.

GM Tech (Cam) :

However, have you checked the exhaust for restrictions/

Customer :

no chewed wires plugs lokk fine, i used a test light to verify voltage between pink and blck wire, e auto is not giving me a pin configuration for ecm just general wiring

GM Tech (Cam) :

Does it seem to go fine when cool and the issue goes when hot/

Customer :

seems to be flowing alright no excefive heat at cat

GM Tech (Cam) :

The proper test is a pressure reading at the front o2 sensor.

GM Tech (Cam) :

However, try unplugging the MAF and see if that makes it go. if not plug that in and unpug the MAP on the belt side of the intake and see.

Customer :

yes when cool i can travel maybe 7 miles with good acceleration and smooth idle then all of a sudden when i accelerate it will start to fumble also is making an accessive intake air noise then quits after 5 or more attempts to start it will statr and drives a while longer po 102 will not post amediatly but after several starts mil will light with that code

GM Tech (Cam) :

OK, that sounds more like a sensor or wiring not exhaust but still bang on the exhuast and see if you can feel any rattling in there.

Customer :

i will put it back on hjoist and see, but if no restiction is apparent then im trying to decide to replace computer or i have a plentum leak that appears when hot

GM Tech (Cam) :

Is it loosing coolant

Customer :

no

GM Tech (Cam) :

OK, I had thought about intake leaking coolant. I doubt PCM, I really thing wiring. MAP and MAF back each other up so if one is out, it may actually be the other. That is why you should ru with one unplugged and see.

Customer :

i replaced the map sesor did find it to be broken off in plennum, customer replaced mass sensor three times, i cannot find a pcm pin configeration to back trck the wires e auto only suggests test light for voltage

Customer :

i have one blue and one clear pcm plugs

GM Tech (Cam) :

Ok, let me get you that, But I need to go to regular Q&A.
