I just bought a 2000 GTP with 80k on it. I drive 100 miles a day (highway miles) to work. the car drives strong & shifts strong for the first leg of the day... On the way home, when the torque converter is locked with a slight load at about 60-70 mph, it pulses and the tach changes rpm like it's going in & out of lock. If you stand on the throttle, it will shutter in between gears... Only when it's good & warm. I changed the fluid after noticing this & the tranny and fluid looked very clean inside. But it still has the same issues.
Optional Information: Year: 2000Make: PontiacModel: Grand Prix GTPEngine: 3.8 SC Already Tried: Changed the transmission fluid
Is there any chance of getting the computer system scanned for transmission codes?
I have a pretty good idea of whats going on but I would like to know if any codes are present before we go to far...
Please let me know....Thanks, Carguyjosh
I could take it to a dealer or maybe an autoparts store tomorrow... Would it give a code if the check engine light has not been on at all?
There is often transmission codes that do not turn the check engine light on.
If you can have the codes read and let me know we can try to figure out what is going on..
I think what we will find is a code that states, maximum long term adaptive shift...
Please let me know if this is what is found..
Thanks, Carguyjosh
Yeah, I will get it read tomorrow & let you know... Thankyou
No problem. Just be sure that if you go to Autozone you tell them that your looking for transmission codes...
