Welcome. The radio needs to be setup with a scan tool to unlock it. The old system of entering a code is gone now that the electronics are smart enough to use the VIN to determine if the radio is in the vehicle that matches the VIN that was learned.

To setup a new radio for the vehicle, complete the setup procedure under the Special Functions menu of the scan tool.

If the new radio is not properly setup, the radio will display a locked message (LOC) or Calibrate.

Important: The radio set up will configure the following systems:

LEARN VIN
Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Class 2 Radio Messages
Country Code
Chime Volume
Chime Level
12/24 Hour Clock
Without learning the VIN, the radio will display a locked message (LOC).

The radio setup procedure will also clear the following messages:

CAL
CAL ERR
CALIBRATE

i have the vin but do i have to bring to a dealership or can i unlock it at home entering a code?

No, the scan tool is the device that performs the setup procedure, so i'm afraid its off to the dealer, but this should only take 10 mins so the bill should be very small if they are reasonable.
