1997 Pontiac: Gear shift..stuck..park..i fix it myself

Customer Question

1997 Pontiac Grand AM. Gear shift lever is stuck in park. How do i fix it myself? When it first got stuck it did start when the panel was removed on the side of the gearshift consule and depress the lockout boot mechanism allowing us to get the car in gear to drive it home. Once at home, and car was turned off it would not restart. How do I remove the gear shift lever knob and the consule to get to the mechanism and repailr it?
