Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain and recover the coolant. Refer to Service and Repair.
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  4. Remove the surge tank line from the coolant outlet.graphic
  5. Remove the coolant outlet to the inlet manifold attaching bolts.
  6. Remove the coolant outlet.
  7. Remove the thermostat.
  8. Clean the inlet manifold mating surfaces.
  9. Clean the coolant outlet mating surfaces.
Installation Procedure

  1. Install the thermostat in the inlet manifold.
  2. Install the coolant outlet to the inlet manifold. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
  3. Install the attaching bolts.
    • Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) .
  1. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  2. Install the surge tank line to the coolant outlet.
  3. Fill the engine with coolant. Refer to Service and Repair.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.
    • Tighten the bolt to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.) .
  1. Inspect the system for leaks.
