I installed a shower several years ago and I have a leak

Customer Question

I installed a shower several years ago and I have a leak problem. It appears to be from the drain. I caulked it up but I now see that is not the best material for the job. can you help me?

I have access panels and it appears that it is not leaking from the shower... around the enclosure is dry
Expert:  Hauserplb replied 27 days ago.

ok do you have access to the underside of the shower?

Customer: replied 27 days ago.
I can touch it and see a little bit.... I am not as limber as when I put it in about 7 years ago

From looking at it from below, it appears to be coming from the drain
Expert:  Hauserplb replied 27 days ago.

Well, unfortunately to solve the leak, the drain will have to be taken apart from underneath and re-installed.

do you travel?
Customer: replied 27 days ago.
I guess I will need a plumber....

lol, no sir. I don't think my wife would appreciate that much.

Customer: replied 27 days ago.
I think it is leaking around the too if the drain. Is there a substance that would handle that?
Customer: replied 27 days ago.
top of the drain

Sorry for the bad news, I just don't want to tell you "maybe this could work" ideas, when I know the only real fix is a re-installation. The problem with anything you could apply to it at this point is that there is no way to get the surfaces clean enough to properly adhere.

Customer: replied 27 days ago.
this will cost a small fortune
Customer: replied 27 days ago.
let me see what I can find.....
Expert:  Hauserplb replied 27 days ago.

You can try marine grade caulking, its sold at home depot. it takes about 3 days to properly cure, but its made for boats. You need to be very careful with cleaning the joint. Thats the best I can tell you.

But once again, a re-installation is the only "real" fix
