Customer Question

I have a Whirlpool RO unit. It is an under-the-sink unit and has worked wonderfully for a couple of years now. Recently, the water pressure has been strange. It starts out at a pressure which seems normal but quickly reduces to a trickle. I replaced the filters and the membrane and left the valve open for 12 hours and then started it back up but it is still doing the same thing.

I also checked to make sure all tubing was ok and not crimped and that all valves were open.

Hello, my name is ***** ***** I look forward to helping you. Do you have a small pressure tank on this system?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Expert:  WCohn replied 9 months ago.

If you have a tire gauge can you check the pressure in the tank? And see if water comes out of the air valve.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I have already gone through all of the steps, including this one, which were stated in the owner's manual. I came here as a last resort before purchasing a new tank.
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I was hopeful that I would get someone who had run across this problem before and that it would be something the owner's manual had missed.
Expert:  WCohn replied 9 months ago.

Well, thats what I am trying to do. I'm trying to diagnose the problem. What was the air pressure? Was there water in the air valve?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
As I said, I am at work now and don't recall the pressure but it was within the amount listed in the manual. There was no water.
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Also, our water pressure is good so it is not a problem with the water pressure.
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
If you open it, it will run forever at a trickle and so I immediately thought it would have to be the tank pressure but it starts off so good and then just dies down to nothing.
Expert:  WCohn replied 9 months ago.

That doesn't sound like a bad tank either. As long as its holding air.

I will try this again this evening. Thank you.
Expert:  WCohn replied 9 months ago.

I'll be here to help. Please understand I gat a lot of questions from people that do not know how to do what you already have. I do not mean to insult your intelligence.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
You have not. It make sense that the tank needs to be re-pressurized and I hope this works. Thanks again.
Expert:  WCohn replied 9 months ago.

No problem. Please let me know either way

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Won't be able to get back to you until tomorrow. How do I get back to you?
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Do I just keep this string of verbal exchanges and add to it tomorrow?
Expert:  WCohn replied 9 months ago.

That will work for me.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Great. I'll let you know tomorrow.
Expert:  WCohn replied 9 months ago.

Excellent I'll talk to you then

Expert:  WCohn replied 9 months ago.

Any luck yet?

Had to go out of town so won't be able to do anything with it until next week.

Have you resolved your issue?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
