I have a Moen tap that needs repair. The stuff Moen sent me

Customer Question

I have a Moen tap that needs repair. The stuff Moen sent me doesn't resemble what I have at all. I am looking into a hole at a Philips screw head. This screw woks everything - water on and off. In fact I have been living for a while with a screw driver on the sink counter and everything works fine - not very cosmetic. I have a plastic corrugated tube that is supposed to go around the screw but I can't get the screw out.

These require a special moen tool to remove the recessed nut holding the stem in place

The red piece is just a stem extension so the handle will work

I have that tool but bit seems like the nut is stuck - it's been in there about 10 years.
Which direction should I be trying to turn it -counter clock-wise?
Expert:  WCohn replied 5 months ago.

Spray it with CLR and let it soak. Counter clockwise to loosen.

Any luck?
