We had a leak in our gas water heater. We turned the water

Customer Question

We had a leak in our gas water heater. We turned the water and the gas off. Was that correct and is there anything else we immediately have to do like drain the tank or can it wait until morning since its 2am?

Hello, you did everything right so far, next attach a garden hose to the hose bib connection at the bottom of the tank, run the hose outside and open the valve. That will drain the rest of the water out ... if... the bottom of the water heater is not clogged up with mineral deposits...in that case all you can do is wait for the plumber to replace the tank. I can stay with you on this as long as needed if you will rate my input so far positively.
