turned gas off to my Ruud Guardian Model P40-36F1 water heater to replace a water line elsewhere in my home. Now I can not get the pilot to light.

Hey would like to help you with your gas water heater. My first thought would be a bad thermolcouple.

Before you replace it make sure your gas valve is not stuck closed. Loosen your gas connection at water heater and and crack open valve. Make sure you smell gas so you know it's not stuck. Let me know how it goes. Or if you need more help
