There was an accidental firing of a small gun in my house

Customer Question

There was an accidental firing of a small gun in my house yesterday and the bullet went through two walls and struck the water heater about 3/4 up from the ground on the left side. It left a small hole in the metal casing, and when I stick my finger in it, I can feel insulation. But, I assume that since the water heater is not leaking (it has been 12 hours now with regular hot water use) that it did not pierce the inner tank? Thanks!

The jacket on a water heater is light gauge sheet metal. The tank is much heavier gauge and could probably withstand an impact from a small caliber weapon. If it hasn't leaked in 12 hours you're probably OK
