Customer Question

I have septic field. The pipe from house to the tank gets blocked with waxy substance a couple times per year and water from the pipe backs up and seeps into basement where stack pipe goes thru wall to tank. I realize it is a blockage in a curve of the pipe. How can it be fixed/cleared so it doesn't happen again. Only two people in the house . Septic tank and field are way oversized and tank was cleaned a year ago . The field and tank are fine .

Welcome to JA! If the blockage is occurring in a curve in the poor that is not proper or a sag in the line , then the proper fix odd to dig down and replace the pipe or improper fitting. If this is a nuisance clog that just never quite gets cleared, you should have your main line hydro jetted to scrub clean the inside of the pipe.

Where and what would I buy to do this myself

Tool rental companies are becoming more and more aware of these machines. Traditionally they have been just available from plumbing companies, but you can ask your local tool rental company that you want to rent a hydro jetter instead of a drain snake. If they don't have one, they should be able to bring one in from another branch if they are a national company, such as United Rental.

If you want to actually buy this machine, they are fairly expensive if you are not using it on a regular basis. The brand we use is Spartan. You should expect to pay over 1500 for a small machine.
