I have a Kohler steam generator displaying an "error 5" message. The manual indicates that this means the float has shut off water due to blockage or lack of water. The unit is definately getting water. Is it possible for me to open the unit and address this problem? Thanks in advance for any assistance. XXXXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX
Already Tried: I've turned the breaker on and off. The error code some back on after the on switch was pressed.
after the shutoff there should be a check valve. it may be stuck closed. how did you assess that there is water?
The same water line feeds the sink and toilet and they are working properly. What's the check valve look like?
this is a swing check valve. it can only be horizontal. trun the water off and remove the top cap to access the gate inside and see if it is stuck closed.
?????? Your response only says "cou"
when i want to add a picture i have to respond and then edit it. i was editing when you looked. the real message is there now.
Okay. I am currently at my office and will explore this potential solution this evening. May I do that and get back to you with regard to my findings?
For sure. Even after you accept my answer you can still post and I will respond.
what were the results of the findings?
I haven't had a chance to evaluate. How do I "get" to this part? Does the top of the unit come off? I see that you've charged my cc for the full amount. When did I accept your answer? Mark
You are charged for the deposit but you haven't accepted the answer. If you are displeased in any way you can get your deposit back. The check valves are available at any supply store. Depending on what type you have you can remove the top when the water is off if it is a swing check. If it is a spring check you would have you remove it to check for blockage. Compare to the pictures I sent to assess what type you have.
I still haven't had the time to work on it. I do have a day job. Hopefully, I'll have a chance this weekend. Thx, Mark
Alright. Wasn't trying to rush you. Take your time. I'll be here when you need me. Thanks mike
i haven't heard from you and i was wondering if i can still help with your problem. i would really like to continue working to solve the issue at hand. thanks, mike.
