Marc the plumber : Hello and thank you for using JA.com. I will assist you today with your question to the best of my ability.
Marc the plumber : I would recommend bleeding the gas line to purge any air from the lines. Or attempt to restart the unit a few more times and this will also do the same.
Customer :

What does bleed the gas line mean?

Customer :

The gas is going to the kitchen and gas heaters so presumably is coming in from the cylinders ??

Customer :

The hot water system sounds like it is try ing get the gas started in that we can hear it going "whoosh" when the gas comes in but then stops. If it was electric I would say it is the pilot light gone out bt of course that is not the case

Marc the plumber : That means opening the union connection at the gas line removing any air that may be in the line. If you are not comfortable with this operation I would recommend contacting a gas technician who can do this for you.
Marc the plumber : Mic the gas cylinders were replaced then the company should have done this for you
Customer :

Definetly not! I have no experience in plumbing.

Customer :

So should I ring Elgas tomorrow then to come and do this or a plumber?

Marc the plumber : If the plumber has experience and or a licence with gas then they can do this for you, otherwise the gas company.
Customer :

OK thanks. I am not sure how this happens given we get the gas replaced every 3 months or so...do you know how this happens

Marc the plumber : The company who replaced the tanks should have ensured that all your equipment was running prior to leaving your job.
Customer :

OK thanks for your help

Marc the plumber : Some times just replacing the tanks will give a small burp of air, just enough to cause a problem. Typically this isn't a problem with items such as your stove as they are self " purging" however the rinnai is a bit more sensitive. As I stated before, you may simply wish to reset your rinnai a few times and it may work it's way out on its own.
Marc the plumber : Your very welcome. Glad to be of assistance for you today!!
