My insinkerator stopped working suddenly and the motor just hums when you switch it on. I tried rotating the blades from underneath with the allen key but although the blades turn the motor still just hums and the unit wont start to work.
When you turn it with the disposal wrench from underneath, do the blades turn both ways freely?
they dont turn freely, there is a scraping noise but I can do 360° turn either way
Ok the problem is you have an obstruction in the disposal. Be very careful. Can you see inside with a flashlight what the obstruction is?
I have looked but cant see anything
If there is no obstruction then it may be time for a new disposal. It is siezed. there are two causes for the problem you are having. Either there is an obstruction or it is seized and the only fix for that is replacement.
