Rick the plumber :

Welcome to Just Answer, I will do my best to help with your problem

Rick the plumber :

You don't have to get all the glue off as long as there it has a good bond to the panels. You need to be sure to use enough new adhesive to get a good bond.

Rick the plumber :

If the painted walls have a glossy or semi-gloss finish you need to sand the walls to get rid of the gloss. New wallboard would be better

Customer :

its semi gloss

Customer :

what kind of wallboard

Customer :

and thickness?

Rick the plumber :

The best option would be Denshield by Georgia Pacific. It's actually made as a tile backer but would work well in this case.

Rick the plumber :

The thickness depends on the other surfaces your meeting up to

Customer :

ok, that way if backerboard does get wet it will not get damaged like plywood. thanks im all set !!!

Rick the plumber :

You're welcome
