Rick the plumber :

Welcome to Just Answer, I will do my best to help with your problem

Rick the plumber :

Go ahead and post your picture

Customer :

Customer :

Any idea?

Customer :

Need the name to get it on the HomeDepot site.

Rick the plumber :

It's called a stem

Rick the plumber :

But that's not going to get you the part on any site

Customer :

ok

Customer :

what will?

Rick the plumber :

You need the brand of the valve at least

Rick the plumber :

then you might find it on a specialty part site

Customer :

damn. part is at least 30 years. old

Rick the plumber :

Check this site out. I't probably your only shot at finding it. but if you don't know what you have it's a needle in a hay stack

http://www.chicagofaucetshoppe.com/

Customer :

none of the parts have a name on it.

Customer :

the guys i showed it to in the stores kept saying they think its "taiwan"

Customer :

looking now

Rick the plumber :

you need the brand of the valve/faucet

Rick the plumber :

Taiwan is where it may have been made

Rick the plumber :

if it is Taiwan then you're out of luck. Nobody will have the part

Rick the plumber :

You're only shot is if it's a major American manufacturer

Customer :

so know, i will have to take out whats there and put in something else.

Customer :

is that about the size of it?

Rick the plumber :

replacing the whole valve/faucet may be your only option

Customer :

can i go from a 3 stem to a one stem>

Customer :

?

Rick the plumber :

Yes, you just connect the existing piping to the new valve. 1 handle pressure balancing valve is all we can use now in the States

Customer :

why is that?

Customer :

US regulations?

Rick the plumber :

Yes, is a code requirement to prevent scalding in the shower

Customer :

nice.

Customer :

how would i convert this with the two pipes coming up as is?

Rick the plumber :

Any new valve no mater the number of handles has a hot and cold water line into the valve. It may just take a couple more elbows to connect a 1 handle valve

Customer :

ok.

Customer :

thanks.

Customer :

accepting now.

Rick the plumber :

You're welcome
