what is this part called? It came out of a shower knob with three knobs. Hot, cold and shower head/tub water faucet. I have a picture of the part to show you in chat.
Already Tried: Went to 5 local hardware stores.

Any idea?
Need the name to get it on the HomeDepot site.
It's called a stem
But that's not going to get you the part on any site
ok
what will?
You need the brand of the valve at least
then you might find it on a specialty part site
damn. part is at least 30 years. old
Check this site out. I't probably your only shot at finding it. but if you don't know what you have it's a needle in a hay stackhttp://www.chicagofaucetshoppe.com/
none of the parts have a name on it.
the guys i showed it to in the stores kept saying they think its "taiwan"
looking now
you need the brand of the valve/faucet
Taiwan is where it may have been made
if it is Taiwan then you're out of luck. Nobody will have the part
You're only shot is if it's a major American manufacturer
so know, i will have to take out whats there and put in something else.
is that about the size of it?
replacing the whole valve/faucet may be your only option
can i go from a 3 stem to a one stem>
?
Yes, you just connect the existing piping to the new valve. 1 handle pressure balancing valve is all we can use now in the States
why is that?
US regulations?
Yes, is a code requirement to prevent scalding in the shower
nice.
how would i convert this with the two pipes coming up as is?
Any new valve no mater the number of handles has a hot and cold water line into the valve. It may just take a couple more elbows to connect a 1 handle valve
ok.
thanks.
accepting now.
