I just purchased a new home and noticed that the fan on top of my Rheem water heater is on and rather noisy. I am not living in the home yet so I am not sure if it is on a sensor and automatically turns off. The surface of the fan is hot but I think that it is from the heater itself and not the motor. Should I be concerned?

The Fan shouldn't be running unless the heater is calling for heat.
With it being noisy, I would Unplug it and call a plumber to check it out
It needs serviced before you use it again
Oh okay, that could be true. It sounds like it goes on and off then depending on the tempurature. I think that the issue is that we've never been in the home when it happened to be on.
If the fan is noisy it should be serviced
Good point about the noise and service. We just left the house with it on. Hopefully it is okay overnight?
Could it be hazardous?

Do you advise that I should go back to the house to turn it off or is it okay until morning?
How far is it, I would go back and unplug if it was me
