Bud :

Thank you for asking your question on .

Hi, what brand and type of Toilet do you have?

Customer :

American standard I believe, it is about 38 years old

Bud :

Is it the bucket type or standard flapper?

Customer :

Standard flapper, I just replaced it a month ago

Bud :

Sounds like maybe you replaced it with a low flow type flapper. These will close sooner for water conservation. I recommend Korky brand of flapper, just plain Jane flapper without any adjustments.

Customer :

This was a standard replacement (red) rubber flapper with no adjustment features

Customer :

Could it be I need the drain cleaned

Bud :

You can stay in the chat, if you like.

Bud :

If you hold down the handle, does it flush properly?

Customer :

not really, it fills up the bowl and then does not empty it completely

Bud :

Ok, you may have drain issues if this is the case. It also could be the toilet itself has a partial blockage.

Bud :

You can also do what I call a bucket test. Fill a 3-5 gallon bucket with water and quickly pour the water into the toilet bowl, this should make the toilet flush properly. If it doesn't, there is a blockage somewhere for sure.

Customer :

Okay I will try that, thanks for your time.
