Thanks for your question. Most of the time, hair loss is due to heriditary reasons. Several methods of hair replacement are possible, including wigs, flaps and the most popular method of hair transplants. The methods and options, the costs and risks and the realisic expectations should be discussed with a board certified plastic surgeon who is experienced in this type of procedure. You can speak to your local plastic surgery society or the staff office at a local hospital to inquire about a plastic surgeon on the hospital staff who does this procedure. Although the costs vary with the Doctor, his location, the amount of hair which requires replacement, the procedure will cost somewhere between $12-20 for a plug (each plug usuall contains about 15 hairs) and there may be quite a few plugs necessary, so probably $5-10,000 which will include the surgery, operating room, anesthesia and follow up visits. Once the plugs "take", they would be permanent. Good luck.

The above answer is correct. In choosing a physician for hair transplants, you should see a physician whose practice is primarily hair transplantation.
