I relocated Lucent answer machine AS40 to a different room and when I plug it into electric power it beeps loudly and flashes F1. How do I fix that? Please advise how to hook it up for a separate phone/fax machine and a computer dial-up internet connection. What cords go to what labelled receptacles? You can even describe the cords for me. I must have done something wrong. Does the computer have a cord to the phone or answer machine? Or does it just have a cord to the wall phone jack?
Already Tried: the leaflet from Lucent: doesn't say how to reset or cure this problem
Hello Sir or Madam and thanks for choosing the JustAnswer.com Phone Systems subcategory of the Electronics category.

This is an older answer machine. It does not have a button marked "power", but there is one marked "on/off". I followed your instructions (the power cord had been unplugged for hours) using the on/off button and nothing has changed. It still beeps when plugged in, says F1 in the window, and doesn't change when I press on/off. What else can I try? Could it be because I have some of the cords plugged into wrong places or the other ends to the wrong devices? thanks.
OK.
I followed your second instructions and the unit is still unresponsive and beeping. There is no reset button or hole on this unit. The problem is not solved.
I went to Radio Shack this morning before I ran the final test and bought one for 19.99. after the final test you suggested didn't solve problem, I installed the new one in 3 minutes and had no problem with which cords went where. I wish I had done that in the beginning and not even tried to contact anyone for help. thank you.
OK
It wasn't helpful.
please stop emailing me. I rated you. I read all your replies and they were not helpful. You didn't seem to be familiar with my unit. I gave up on your advice and bought a new unit before I opened your email telling me to replace it if your advice didn't work.
Sorry, the system emails you until you are satisfied. There is nothing I can do.
