Can the Nortel CS1000M Version 7 send SMDR data via IP versus Serial?
Already Tried: All over the internet

Yes, I am waiting for an answer.
Hello,
I think I will be able to help you with your question and I wanted to get a little more information about your situation.
There are some different possibilities that might meet your needs.
Do you know the model of your processor or media card that you has the ethernet interface?
Do you already have IP configured on the ethernet interface?
Do you have a target software package that will collect your SMDR data or are you looking for that part of the solution also?
It look forward to getting the additional information and answering your question.
Thanks,
Todd

sorry, did not mean to accept the answer yet.
Don't know what you mean by model of your processor or media card but the PBX is a Nortel CS1000M rev. 7. Everything I have read on the internet points to the fact that after rev. 5 the data was able to go via IP to a call accounting system versus the old way which was via serial port. But, I want to make sure that is correct. I also want to know how to program the steps that would outpulse the records via ip. I do have a target software package which will collect SMDR so I am not looking for that solution.

Marcia,
Don't worry about the accidental accept, I will stick with you until you have your question resolved. If we can't do it you can get it refunded through Customer Service. In either situation do not click on 'accept' again as it's already considered completed.
The reason I asked about your destination software package is because it needs to be able to receive data via an IP network protocol as opposed to serial data. The Nortel (Avaya) uses what is called a BDI (Buffer Data Interface) that must be enabled. I've attached a link to a PDF document that shows the setup for a VeraSMART Call Accounting that communicates via the BDI. It looks like you also need the CS 1000 DATA BUFFERING AND ACCESS CDR/TRAFFIC TOOLKIT for their solution.

Based on the document it looks like they use SFTP (secure FTP) to collect data from the phone system. Your call accounting software may support it natively.
If you can give me the target software package that would help me to formulate a complete solution.
If you can look at this documentation and see if we are on the right trail. Send any questions I'd be glad to help guide you through it.
Thanks,Todd
Hi Todd,
Thanks for the response. We are right on track here. The software package I am using is Metropolis and it is capable of accepting data via ip or ftp. The document about Veramark is on the right track but the part I need is how to program the Nortel CS1000M to output SMDR via IP to any external Call Accounting Package.
I basically need to make sure it does output data via IP and I need to know the commands to enter on the Nortel side to tell it to send the data via IP versus serial.
Do you have any more information on my issue?
Thanks, Marcia
I do apologize for the delay. I'm looking for one last piece of documentation. I expect to have an answer for you tomorrow.
Thanks for you patience,
No problem. Thanks for working with me. Marcia.
