Customer Question

I am epileptic and I take 3 tablets of onfi 20mg(total of 60mg), I also take ativan 1mg and Ambient 10mg as I have serious insomnia and I can not sleep more than 3 hours which affects my seizures and also my daily life. I started taking Unisom over the counter but I still can't sleep. Do you have any suggestions that could help me with this issue. My doctor is not sure what else to prescribe but I thought you may have seen this before or may be able to help.
Thanks

Hi there,
Yes... Insomnia is something difficult to deal with. I would take Melatonin 3mg to 6mg along with Ambien at night. If that does not help, then switch to Temazepam or Clonazepam.

Some other options are also Trazodone, Doxepin, or valerian. It's like trial and error. You have to try one and if does not work, then go to the other one. Valerian and Melatonin are OTC, all the others are prescriptions.

you might have to combine 2-3 to get a full 8 hours sleep if your insomnia is severe.

I would not recommend just adding another medicine like melatonin

you need to see a sleep specialist and find out what is wrong

you might have sleep apnea or something else causing this

we need to get to the root of the issue
