Hi there

Expert:  Dr. Cooper replied 1 year ago.

Have you tried Azo or Uristat (OTC)?

Generic name (active ingredient) needs to be Phenazopyridine

It will help with your UTI symptoms like burning and urgency. But will need a prescription from MD to get an antibiotic to fully get rid of the infection. Of course plenty of fluids help too :)

If you are prone to chronic UTIs, then I would ask the doctor to prescribe an antibiotic as prevention such as Septra or Macrodantin onceca day.

Cranberry juice helps with prevention, but not much help in treating the infection.

One other suggestion I have is to be sure to urinate right after intercourse... it's the easiest way to prevent UTIs.

Hope this helps and hope you feel better. I know how painful and discomforting UTI can be.
