I used to take Meftal Spas, once a month pains, when I was

Customer Question

I used to take Meftal Spas , once a month for period pains, when I was in India. What is the drug name which can be found over the counter in USA with the same chemicals.
Also, is it ok to take Meftal SPAS? Does it have any long term side effects?

There is two drugs in Meftal Spas Mefenamic Acid 250mg and Dicyclomine 10mg.

Mefenamic Acid 250mg is an anti inflammatory and Dicyclomine 10mg is an anti-spasmodic

You can find Mefenamic Acid 250mg OTC in USA if not you can use another anti inflammatory such as ibuprofen or diclofenac.

Best to only take it for a few days intermittently if possible as long term ongoing use can potentially effect your stomach and increase BP.

Is once a month intake of mental spas ok?
Also I take ibuprofen here and there for headaches.
Expert:  Sherwin Kashani replied 10 months ago.

Yes, is is best if you take Meftal Spas a day before you have your period as this will help reduce the 'flare up'. Best not to take Ibuprofen or any other anti inflammatory at the same time as Meftal Spas.
