Hello,

I apologize that no one has responded to your question sooner. Different experts come online at various times. I just came online and saw your question.

While the breeding you would like to do would be interesting, it isn't possible. The rosie bourke is unable to be hybridized with any other species. the Bourke's parakeets only produce offspring with their own kind. Its scientific name is
Neopsephotus bourkii. The first part of the scientific name tells us the genus. The second word is the species.Other grass parakeets in the Neopsephotus genus can breed with each other, but not with birds from an entirely different genus. Bourkii will not even breed with other Neopsephotus. The budgie is an entirely different genus. Its scientific name is XXXXX XXXXX XXXXXXX the similar appearance of the rosy bourke and the budgie, they are not closely related.

That being said, birds from different species can form close pair bonds, and a budgie and rosy bourke may do this. They may snuggle, feed each other, and even seem go through the motions of mating. Any eggs produced would be infertile and would not hatch. There are people who have claimed to produce hybrids of the two species, but when DNA analysis is done, they are proven wrong. This is not a breeding that works. If you want babies from a rosy bourke, it has to mated with another bourke's parakeet.
