How big do pot bellied pigs get? My son has dog/cat allergies. He really wants a pet so I am trying to think of a pet that would follow him around that he could actually play with. do you think a pot bellied pig would be good? are they dirty animals?

Hello,
I do not suggest a Pot Bellied Pig. Most people do not realize that Pot bellied Pigs can go over 250 pounds when they are full grown. The original Pot Bellied Pigs were left, sold for meat and thrown into shelters because people who bought the cute little pigs, soon found that the Pot bellied Pigs grew into monsters that they were not expecting.
There are pigs that are now bred to be much smaller called Juliana Pigs which are minitures and much smaller. they are very smart and are the size of a small dog. Pigs are actually very clean and can be litter box trained.
Breeders have worked with different breeds and have come up with the Juliana Miniature Pigs. There is now an organization that actually registers the pigs and has guidelines set down to protect new owners from what those that purchased Pot Bellied Pigs had gong through in the past.
This link has a registry and information on breeders and requirements set down to protect owners, breeders and the Juliana Breed. http://www.julianapig.com/
I suggest you read the information supplied in the link and see what the registry is suggesting to protect you from having to go through the issues faced with Pot Bellied Pigs.
