Hi,
Is the rabbit eating normally?
Is there any redness around the eye?
Whay type of bedding are you using?
Is Percy housed inside?
Is percy rubbing the eye?
Joan
Yes, he is eating normally. There is some redness around the eye. He has aspen pine bedding (new for the last 3 weeks),Percy is housed inside on an enclosed porch, we have not seen him rub the eye.
,What is the next step?
hello,
If he is on Pine bedding please change that out. Pine and Cedar Bedding can cause some serious issues with Rabbits as it is Toxic to them. Pine Bedding contains Phenols which can affect the eyes, the respiratory system and the skin. I suggest using carefresh bedding which is a recycled paper bedding that is very safe.
The eye issue will need to be addressed by a rabbit Savy Vet, but we can try a couple of Drops of Sterile saline eye drops in the eye to help soothe it and to make sure there is no debris in the eye. What I suspect is this may be a tooth(Molar) issue. rabbits teeth are opened eneded and can grow up into the sinus passages and up into the eye socket causing swelling that you are seeing in the eye.
I am going to give you a link to locate a Rabbit Vet who can thoroughly examine the teeth and check the eye for what may be happing. This does require a hands on exam. This is a link for rabbit Vets: http://www.rabbit.org/vets/vets.html this link can also help you locate an Exotic vet in your area: http://www.aemv.org/
