I have never felt my rabbits chin scent gland before, but feeling

Resolved Question:

I have never felt my rabbits chin scent gland before, but feeling it now I am worried if it is swollen. I can feel a bump that moves around quite easily under his jaw, so I guess that it is his scent gland. He is clean, eating well and have lots of energy. Should I get him looked at just in case or is it normal to be able to easily feel the gland?

Hello,

Rabbits do have scent glands under their chin and they also have what is called a dewlap which gives the appearance of a double chin. The scent glands are used to mark territory.

 

At this point, I would keep an eye on the area, but I suspect that it is just the scent gland because from your description sounds normal. If it seems to get bigger or he seems off at all, I would have Fuffe in to the Vet to have it checked out.
