He gave him a shot of prednisone and Benadryl and told me to give him Benadryl. He was ok for about 8 hours yesterday but started it again bad last night. The noise is so scary. He is only 6 months old. We are on a trip to my parents that does have different weather. He has had all his shots including his kennel cough. Please help

Welcome to JustAnswer! I would be happy to assist you. I am a 2003 graduate from UC Davis and a Medical Director of a veterinarian practice.Hello, I am sorry to hear how Stephanie Borjon is doing. I believe you may actually be describing reverse sneezing fits or collapsing trachea, so I will give you info about both. Reverse Sneezing VideoReverse Sneezing Information.Collapsing Trachea VideoCollapsing Trachea Information. Now, generally, as long as a pet quickly gets over the fits within a minute or so, with no other breathing difficulty, we do no other treatment I know it can sound like they are dying, but as long as they quickly recovery, no treatment is usually given. It can be very common in certain breeds. Sometimes, this is caused by a condition called a elongated soft palate, where the soft palate in the throat is too long, and can interfere with normal breathing. It can be surgically corrected. Also, a upper respiratory infection can exacerbate it, so if it persists or gets worse, a course of antibiotics really should be started. Definitely, if your vet didn't mention either of the above conditions as a possible explanation, you should consider consulting a new vet for another opinion.
