I have two 10 week old prairie dogs that we let run around the house in the evening when we get home at night. I noticed this evening that they where eating our (canine) dogs food (Bil-jac). My question is, is it bad for them to eat dog food???

Hello,
Prairie Dogs are basically Herbivores and need a high fiber diet. The dog food does not containg anywhere near the nutritional value that it takes to keep the Prairie Dogs heathy. The occassional feeder insects are given as treats. I would try and use a good quality Prairie Dog food for juveniles. This link goes over the different foods available for your two little ones: http://www.exoticnutrition.com/prdogfo.html
A balanced diet is very important, because these small animals are prone to metabolic issues if their diet is not balanced. This is a great care sheet: http://www.swanimalhospital.net/html/infosheets/prairiedoginfo.html

Thanks for the info. They get a good diet just wanted to make sure if they ate some dog it wouldn't kill them.. I'll keep them away from the dog food.
